The Process behind an experiential installation
I love a strong design concept, but it truly comes to life when I can walk an event space and see how we’re going to build it.
Installations are about so much more than the idea itself. There are countless moving parts behind the scenes, all while ensuring safety for both guests and my team. Once an event is booked, I’ll do multiple walk-throughs: taking measurements, looping in contractors when needed, and even staging hard mechanics as mock-ups to see exactly how everything will come together.
I love surprising guests, but I don’t love surprises on event day. Preparation is everything. Dreaming big is part of the process, but the nuts-and-bolts part is just as important (if not more).
Every venue comes with its own creative constraints. Sometimes an idea that looks perfect on a design deck needs to pivot for safety or spatial logistics, and that’s where the magic happens. Those limitations push me to think differently and create something unexpected.
